DAO 2000-02 is a regulation that controls asbestos use and disposal. Department Administrative Orders set specific rules for handling hazardous substances, and asbestos is regulated because its fibers pose serious health risks to workers and the public. This regulation would cover who can work with asbestos, where and how it can be used, requirements for licensing and training, procedures for safe removal, and the proper disposal of asbestos-containing waste to prevent fiber release. It’s distinct from a general laboratory safety guideline, which would address a broad range of safety topics, from chemical hygiene to equipment use; it’s not an environmental permit for water quality, which governs discharges into water bodies; and it isn’t a treaty for international trade.
